Cerebral Palsy Rehabilitation Services
We offer Movement-based rehabilitation that promotes positive neuroplasticity.
The most important condition to facilitate positive Neuroplasticity is developing a relationship with the child that positively challenges the brain in a playful way. We are doing it together with the child, not "to" the child. With an approach of respect, we are leveraging on the things the child already does best.
Game of perceptions
In a playful atmosphere, we tailor the conditions to allow your child to experience many new types of perceptions that change his/her brain for the better; and through that reprogramming of his/her nervous system, reducing Spasticity, calibrating the muscular tone and working on any other brain-related functions such as balance and eye-sight.
We work with gravity, building through a slow progression with well-executed postures, such as positions from the belly to a pre-crawl, and finding innovation through guided destabilization.
Body, cognition and emotion. We want to unite them all in a purposeful way in order to increase the quality of the positive brain changes.
Spasticity in the eyes of Neuroplasticity.
Have you ever asked yourself what Spasticity really means?
Yes, there is a well accepted medical definition, but does it really help in optimizing the rehabilitation process?
How can we treat Spasticity in a better way than just directly resisting it by applying stretching?
Spasticity can also be viewed as an inhibition of other movement patterns.
We first need to see what is the level of your child's body differentiation, that is, how well your child can perceive specific body parts i.e. knees and ankles, and how those relate to each other functionally.
We do this in a very relaxed and safe environment.
We can even eat light foods to further encourage the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, thus increasing the learning effect.
Differentiation reduces the amount of Spasticity.
Then we go back and forth in a process of gaining new functions and postures and differentiating with even more diverse movements.
What to expect?
Following an assessment, improvements are expected to be seen following the first sessions. Each child has its own rate of improvement and it can take time to find the most optimal strategy for gaining the most improvements.
We are confident about the outcomes that are possible with our approach.
When is the ideal time to start?
It is preferred to start early on, to allow the best possible opportunity for motor development of your child. But positive Neuroplasticity can occur at any age.
A child-centred team approach
We work together with you, the parent, to help you understand better your child's complex condition and the possibilities for positive results.
We can be part of your child care team and collaborate with other stakeholders i.e. Your Physician, RN, PT/OT etc. to provide better care.
We will charge only for hands-on therapy time.
To optimize the therapy, have the child rest well prior to the session and keep the environment relaxed once returning home the same day.
